Honduran ECO Coffee comes from Marcala, a municipality within the Montecillos region where many specialty coffees are grown. Several coffees from this area have won the Cup of Excellence. It is located within the Department of La Paz, in the Southwest of Honduras.
Produced by COMSA (Café Orgánico de Marcala S.A.), an initial group of 69 farmers who in 2001 set out to grow coffee using sustainable techniques. Since its inception COMSA is continuously experimenting and innovating with various techniques such as shade cultivation provided by the Inga, Citrus and Musa, organic fertilisers, etc.
