Its denomination of origin comes from the British Guiana colony, in which the Demerara region is located, the first producer of this type of sugar in the middle of the 19th century. Today, the LAICA (Liga Agrícola Industrial de la Caña de Azúcar) is one of the producers of this type of sugar.
