Jasmine rice is a long-grain, fine, translucent rice. It has a pleasant floral aroma of jasmine (hence the name) and a mild, very characteristic nutty flavour.
Jasmine rice has a high starch content, so before cooking it is advisable to wash it several times under the tap and stirring it with your hands until the water runs clear to remove this excess starch so that it is loose and fluffy once cooked.
The water absorption of Jasmine rice is between 2 and 2.5 times its dry volume. After cooking, Jasmine rice should be left to stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
Jasmine rice is highly recommended to be steamed, this way it is softer and fluffier.
